'Racing for Air' Running Challenge Republic of Korea  | In person

The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea has launched a Relay Running Challenge in line with this year’s theme for the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, “Racing for Air.” Participants can walk, run, or go plogging using GPS-based running apps, and upload their running records and photos to receive a certificate of participation. By sharing the certificate on social media with designated hashtags, participants will be entered into a prize draw.

2025 International Day of Clean Air for blue skies event and Media Capacity Building Workshop on Climate Action Phoenix Center, Beijing, ChinaIn person

UNEP China, with support from Energy Foundation China, will host an event on the International Day of Clean Air to spotlight how clean air supports health, climate, and communities. A media workshop on climate action will follow, fostering knowledge exchange across China and beyond.

Asia-Pacific Commemoration of the 6th International Day of Clean Air for blue skies UN Conference Centre, Bangkok, Thailand | Hybrid

Air pollution is a major environmental health risk, causing millions of premature deaths and affecting economies and communities. To raise awareness, ESCAP and UNEP are observing the day, emphasizing the vital role of clean air in health and sustainable development. The event will highlight the link between clean air and sustainable energy, showing how a shift to renewable sources can reduce pollution and support resilient, equitable communities.

Note: It will be held alongside the fourth session of the ESCAP Committee on Energy, focusing on the disproportionate impact of pollution on vulnerable urban populations.

Round table on air quality in Uzbekistan Hybrid

This hybrid round table will highlight the recent progress in air quality management, monitoring and assessment in Uzbekistan. The event is organised with the Zamin Foundation, with participation of UNEP, WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, the Ministry of Ecology of Uzbekistan and the Agency for Hydrometeorological Services of Uzbekistan.

Medellin Marathon    | Medellín, Colombia In person

The streets of Medellín will echo with the footsteps of over 27,000 runners as the Medellín Marathon kicks off on International Day of Clean Air for blue skies on September 7, 2025. This landmark edition of the marathon marks a new partnership between the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and the Medellín Marathon, celebrating Medellín’s dramatic air quality improvements and calling for global action to reduce air pollution and warming and tackle the super pollutants that cause it.

Wikimedia Uruguay Edit-a-thon, with focus on Clean Air Day    | Uruguay Online

This activity will see participants add content to Wikipedia during the day guided by Wikimedistas and using verified science-based information, much of it from UNEP’s knowledge repository. This activity will contribute to strengthen the way UNEP collaborates with Wikimedia affiliates in the future. The edit-a-thon is a useful activity to address knowledge gaps on one of the top ten most visited websites globally, making information more accessible to a non-specialist audience.

To mark the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies 2025, this webinar will showcase new tools and knowledge resources designed to empower air quality managers globally. Together these initiatives strengthen decision-making, improve public engagement and drive effective policies for clean air. Organized by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition.

Culmination of the training workshop of the Regional Capacity Building Programme on Air Pollution Emissions Inventory Development Holiday Inn Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand | In person

Building on the foundational knowledge from the online workshops and the preliminary work carried out by participants in their home countries, this culminating training workshop is designed to deepen technical understanding, strengthen practical skills through immersive and hands-on learning, and facilitate peer-to-peer learning through interactive sessions, field visits, and expert-led consultations. This regional capacity building programme is organized by UNEP in partnership with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and with support from the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea.

Clean Air Day Festival | Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan | In person

The event aims to raise awareness among Bishkek residents about the importance of air quality and the environmental situation in the country. The festival, organized by the NGO "MoveGreen", supported by UNEP Europe Office and UNEP Sub-Regional Office for Central Asia, will combine art, environmental education and public interaction, giving citizens the opportunity to think about the importance of clean air, acquire new skills and ideas for a greener lifestyle, and join forces to create a better future for everyone. The event includes a variety of activities: exhibitions, master classes, performances, round tables and interactive games, and also creates a platform for networking and exchanging ideas among participants.
